Jugend musiziert, mal anders. Lily (17) und Madeleine Jurkiewicz (20) stehen anfangs etwas verloren im Berliner Magnet auf der Bühne. Lily hustet während der Songs immer wieder in ihren Schal, fürsorglich beobachtet von der großen Schwester. Sie habe eine kleine Erkältung, sagt Lily, und entschuldigt sich später noch für ihren flüsternden Gesang. Es stimmt, nicht alles sitzt, vor allem wenn Lily alleine singt. Es steht an diesem Abend auch keine schützende Band hinter den beiden Schwestern. Der Sound ist schön nackt, von den Stimmen geprägt. Dazu Lily an der Akustikgitarre, Madeleine am Keyboard und Shannon Hayden an Cello und Mandoline. Deshalb übernimmt Madeleine auch ein paar Strophen von Lily. Doch wie diese Teenagerin mit 17 Jahren das Konzert durchzieht und trotz lädierter Stimmbänder tolle Harmoniegesänge abliefert, beeindruckt schon sehr. Und ich glaube nicht, dass sich die beiden von irgendeinem Manager auf die Bühne zerren lassen, obwohl sie eigentlich zu krank dafür sind. Sie wollen einfach, Lily will. Wer sich nicht zum Lächeln zwingen lässt, der hat auch sonst einen eigenen Kopf.

Was gerade so generell mit ihnen passiert, wirbelt das Leben der beiden Schwestern aber wohl schon etwas durcheinander. Madeleine erzählt auf der Bühne, wie merkwürdig es ist, wenn man zu Hause im Wohnzimmer Songs schreibt, die dann irgendwer am anderen Ende Welt liebt. Ein gutes Gefühl, und vielleicht habe sie damit gefunden, was sie gerne machen möchte.

Lily zieht sich nach dem Konzert sichtlich erschöpft zurück. Energiebündel Madeleine beantwortet gerne noch ein paar Fragen mit einer entwaffnenden Freundlichkeit. Was war das Besondere des Konzertes? Wie habt ihr die Setliste zusammengestellt?

Madeleine Jurkiewicz:

“Actually it was a great evening. The crowd was much bigger than I expected, especially for a wednesday night. Especially in a city like across the world from where I live. I was a little nervous, cause Lily is sick and I wanted her to feel comfortable on stage. I hadn’t heard Shannon or Fabrizio (Note: Both supported Lily & Madeleine, Shannon is also playing with Lily & Madeleine) that night, just cause I was upstairs with Lily, try to warm up our voices. But then we came out and everybody was so warm and smiling and staring right at us. And I just thought: Oh, my goodness, we are really touching these people. I feel welcome and it ended up being a really nice night. Unfortunately it was a kind of short set, because I wanted to keep Lily rested. But we had a lot of fun, at least I had a lot of fun. I am about two years older than Lily. She is very mature, but I do consider myself to be the big sister and try to watch out for her as much as I can. Because our parents aren’t with us and I know that they worried about us. I wanted to be able to take care of my little sister. It was strange to sing some of her parts tonight. I know it sounds weird, because I wrote the songs with her and I should be comfortable singing them. But we’ve been singing the songs that way for so long, that I feel like I was in this unfamiliar territory: What am I doing? This is Lily’s part… But I was happy to help her in any way – including singing her part (laughs).” The Setlist: “We knew that we wanted to play some new songs tonight, but also keep some of our favorites in there too. We sprinkle the new ones in. We begin with some old ones and then start putting in some of the new ones. Kind of pepped it up in the middle and then slowed it down. And “Back To The River” is one of our favorites and it seems to be a lot of people’s favorites, so we like to put it at the end. And “Sea Of Love” ist one of favorite songs to cover. It is always a good encore, if people request it. The setlist is kind of whatever we wanted to be. I mean we consider how much new stuff to put in there and what people prefer to hear in the middle rather than… ah… “Nothing But Time” (smiles), nobody even really recognizes that song, so we like to give people the more popular ones. But it really is however we feel that night. Sometimes we have a soft and quiet set. And sometimes we feel big and we do a louder set. Tonight it was comfortable. I feel good about it.”
